So, starting to dip my toe into the deep dark sea of link building. Initially I have been working from a list of sites that a friend provided to me, all have good Page Ranks.
Firstly really recommend the Search Status add on for Firefox. Sadly only on Firefox, and they don’t have Safari version yet. My dream of only using 1 web browser is long gone, with various add ons for Chrome, Firefox, and still resolutely hanging on to Safari as the master browser (hail Master Browser)!

They have a great and pleasantly unobtrusive add on that sits on the top left of your Firefox window. There are neat ranking bars that display page rank, Moz Rank and Alexa numbers. If you right click the little icon you can select “show no-follow links” and every no-follow on the page is highlighted in red. There are loads of demo videos on YouTube if my idiots guide pitched the idiot level too high/low.
If your link isn’t highlighted then you are living the google dream! Of course even no-follow links have a reputation rank benefit, and likewise to maintain a “natural” profile there will inevitably need to be no-follow links put into the mix. In search marketing the game is to always seem organic to the spiders! Much like some fancy ethical food store in Muswell Hill.
If you do download the software you will see that one of the links on this page has been set as a no-follow, I normally love to spread the link love to sites I rate, and the rel=”nofollow” was only put in for a giggle.
The next site I have been playing around on is more to do with Social Media Marketing that search, but still reckoned worth having a look at. Not least because it’s logo is a puffer fish! Check out Bitly. It makes tiny URLs (as does dozens of sites), but it adds tracking so that you can follow the amount of click throughs, which is obviously very neat and useful especially for Twitter.
